Choice Chooses

From Brooks Koepka

Brooks Koepka hadn't shown his first-rate form since the last weekend of the FedEx St. Jude Invitational. He handled pressure in the left knee (he slightly ripped his ultimate patella tendon yr), although his results were not fantastic.

Yet as the PGA Championship is drawing closer, the 30-yr-vintage is calling for more as is the iteration of itself that captured the championship in 2018 and 2019. He did so in 3 of the 4 on the FedEx St. Jude Invitational, comprising of a sixty-two on the outlet day, despite having not taking pictures higher than a 70 in seven of his previous 8 games.

Koepka 's 2nd-area finish on the weekend is his first pinnacle-5 ranking of the 2019-20 PGA season and his 2nd handiest in a pinnacle 10 (the reverse was RBC Heritage 's 7th region in June). If he hadn't appeared any higher now over the weekend, he may not have been a solid pick for the PGA Championship irrespective of becoming the -time-protecting winner, but along with his excellent play he chelated a few problems.

Nevertheless, it's impossible to disregard the fact that Koepka missed the decline at the Workday Charity Open and 3 M Open last month, events that featured even less packed fields than the PGA Championship. He will perform better than he did in his games, but on Sunday he will still come up with a piece brief.

Prediction: Koepka fell beyond schedule, ends in pinnacle 15-20

By Justin Thomas

Dean Humphrey / Press Association

For the primary period, Thomas is the pinnacle-ranked golfer inside the globe owing to the fact that July 2018, and even with his new performance, he has totally won that location. In addition to triumphing over the FedEx St. Jude Invitational, he has finished at 4 of the six tournaments he has played in within the top 10 for the cause that PGA Tour has resumed.

Also if the 27-yr-vintage has not won at TPC Harding Park on any level, his consistent past due play is enough for him to participate in every match. Yeah, don't be shocked because he's near to the peak of the leaderboard for the weekend's limit, scuffling for the victory.

The frightening dimension of the rivalry for Thomas? He says he grows taller.

"I felt like I would win for the duration of the week by means of 3 with exceedingly negative wedge play," he said, in accordance with Golf Channel's Rex Hoggard. "And I didn't really touch a thing too hard, I just really managed my leisure properly. We'll just focus on that and get ready for the PGA to pray and launch something."

It'll be every other week, every other solid performance for Thomas, so he'll probably take out wins in continual events. The projections right here, though, are that although he'll be around, he'll eventually end up only a slight bit.

Prediction: Thomas finishes at pinnacle 5, barely comes up brief

With Rory McIlroy

Darron Cummings / Common Press

While Rory McIlroy has won 4 major tournaments in his career, in August 2014, his ultimate came here at the PGA Championship. He earned 5 PGA Tour events last year, consisting of the Players Championship and the Tour Championship, but his slump in majors was expanding.

The 31-yr-vintage has yet to win every event in 2020 and hasn't been practicing his first-rate because of the start of the PGA Circuit. At some point, he tied for eleventh in a steady show at the Travelers Championship in June, but in his separate 4 events, he achieved little more than thirty seconds, consisting of a 47th-area finish at the FedEx St. Jude Invitational this after the weekend.

McIlroy might not have captured a chief case in either of the intervening 5 years, but he has had at least pinnacle-10 finishes last year, and he manages to compete well on the biggest stages. So one thing that this week may have paintings in his favor? He dominated TPC Harding Park in his handiest look at the case, victorious over the 2015 WGC-Cadillac Match Play chance.

The Northern Irishman is awaiting a win at a big event after six years. It is also time he had a victory in 2020. So, expect McIlroy to get off to a better start than he has in the last few weeks during which he will take out Sunday's victory for his career 's impressive showcase today.

Prediction: McIlroy holds his 5th big event.
